Christian Aid works on climate change issues, campaigning for government and international action to reduce carbon emissions and helping the world’s poorest people adapt in the face of a changing climate. Here in the UK we tend to think about climate change as an issue for the future, but for many poor communities around the world, climate change is happening right now. Poor people and countries suffer today from these challenges – droughts, famines and floods. Christian Aid and the Eden Project have been working together over the last 12 months to highlight these challenges and promote sustainable living both in the UK and for those on the front line in the developing world.
Supporting Eden’s bid for the People’s £50 million lottery giveaway is a logical step for us. We help poor people prepare for and adapt to the devastating effects of climate change. If Eden’s bid for the Edge can help to address some of the challenges we face – through discussion, innovation and sustainable solutions – then this will be a positive outcome for the world’s poor.
