Visitors to the Eden Project can now see what the Edge, Eden’s next major phase, will look like thanks to a new scale model.
The Edge is designed to show how plants and people in some of the most extreme environments in the world survive. The model, built to a 1:100 scale, allows visitors to see both inside and outside. It is split along the middle and a lever raises one half above the other.
The Edge will give local communities and organisations a platform so that they can share their experiences, views, aspirations and ideas for how we will adapt to the challenges of the next few decades - from climate change to resource shortages.
The revolutionary building will be packed full of sustainable technology. The model showcases this, including turbines that will harvest solar energy and a roof shaped to collect rainwater.
It is now on show in Eden's Link building between the Mediterranean and Rainforest Biomes. The Edge is one of six major UK projects on the development grant short-list for the Big Lottery Fund’s £50 million Living Landmarks: The ITV People’s Millions Award with the public deciding the eventual winner in a televised vote later this year.
