  Vote for the Edge

Eden raises the bar for the Edge in the world’s biggest-ever pub quiz
line

The Eden Project is going all out to break the world record for the biggest ever pub quiz as part of its campaign to bring £50 million to Cornwall.

Eden is inviting every pub in the county to take part in the fun event untitled Did You Kernow? on the night of Thursday December 6.

Shortly afterwards, phone voting is due to start in the Big Lottery Fund’s The People’s £50 Million Contest in which Eden’s next great phase the Edge is competing against three other projects from around the country.

Guinness World Records has confirmed that the present record was set in Ireland in June this year with 1234 participants in 21 venues – and Eden is setting out to beat that.

The quiz has been devised by Emma Mansfield, a member of the Eden marketing team and author of the recently published Little Book of Cornwall. The quiz will be in the same funny, entertaining and informative style as the best-selling book.

Emma said: “Eden could not have been built without the support and hard work of the people of Cornwall. The quiz is a great way of having fun with thousands of them – all on the same night.

“We were planning to run a pub quiz this winter. Now we know we are through to the final shortlist for the Big Lottery Fund’s contest, what better way to celebrate than to get out into the pubs of Cornwall?

“The quiz will be an entertaining night out. We’ll be celebrating what puts the 'cor!' into Cornwall and toasting the many great achievements and challenges faced by our own local communities.

“After talking to Cornwall’s largest breweries, who were really supportive of the idea, we road-tested the concept on a few of the landlords who attended the CAMRA beer festival in Falmouth and they were also up for it. Now we want to contact all of Cornwall’s bars, pubs and social clubs to encourage everyone to take part.

“And it is not just confined to Cornwall. If other pubs from anywhere over the Tamar want to take part, they are very welcome too.”

The pub quiz will start at 8pm on December 6. Teams will be able to enter a Cornwall-wide league. There will be a series of prizes and awards will be given to the brightest pubs in Cornwall.

To find out more, take part as either a pub or quiz team, email didyoukernow@edenproject.com or call 01726 811999.

The Edge represents the next great phase at Eden. Its scale and ambition will make it an international icon of sustainability, showing that mankind is capable of amazing things.

The building will be a model of cutting-edge architecture and technology, harvesting water and energy from the sun, wind, and rain to show how we all might live in the future. It will be a testament to one-planet living, built to the lowest possible carbon footprint and designed to last. Inside there will be amazing desert, oasis and water gardens on a scale never attempted undercover.

Web voting for the Big Lottery Fund’s The People’s £50 Million Contest is due to open on November 26 through www.thepeoples50million.org.uk. Phone voting details will be announced at a later date.
