  Vote for the Edge

Bendy buses take Eden’s Edge campaign to the streets
line

Eden’s Edge campaign is hitting the road in an eco-friendly bendy bus as phone voting opens to decide whether it will win £50 million of funding.

The buses will be travelling around major towns and cities in the south west on all four days of the phone vote (Friday December 7 to Monday December 10), loaded with Eden staff and volunteers on hand to spread the word and answer any questions the public may have.

The Edge is one of four projects competing in the Big Lottery Fund’s: the People’s £50 Million Contest. It will be a visionary new building meeting the challenges of climate change. Its scale and ambition will make it an international icon of sustainability.

The winning project will be decided by a public vote. Internet voting is now open at www.edenproject.com/vote. All voting closes at noon on Monday December 10.

On Friday, the bus will be visiting Penzance, Hayle, Helston, Camborne and Redruth. On Saturday it will stop at St. Austell, Truro and Falmouth. On Sunday it will go to Plymouth and Exeter. On Monday it will visit Newquay and Wadebridge.

Jon Curry, Eden’s Edge Campaign Manager, said: “It’s going to be great to get out and about and speak to people in the community about the Edge and why we think everyone should vote for it.

“Voting for Eden is the only way to bring this £50 million to the south west and the Edge is a building of global significance, concerned with all the major challenges the future will throw at us.”

Eden’s bendy buses, which are owned and run by the Truronian bus company, are most commonly seen transporting visitors from the project’s car parks to the visitor centre.

They are 18-metre Citaro Mercedes Benzes. They can carry 149 passengers and run on bio-diesel. Because of their increased capacity over normal, non-articulated buses, they are more fuel efficient and produce less carbon emissions.

The Edge represents the next great phase at Eden. It will be a testament to one-planet living, built to the lowest possible carbon footprint and designed to last. Inside there will be amazing desert, oasis and water gardens on a scale never attempted undercover.

The building will be a model of cutting-edge architecture and technology, harvesting water and energy from the sun, wind, and rain to show how we all might live in the future.
